At Kitchen Refresh, we spend most days transforming kitchens. But sometimes, the most meaningful work has nothing to do with cabinets at all.
For several years, Kitchen Refresh has proudly partnered with Cub Scout Pack 4117 and Cub Scout Pack 4171, helping support hands-on projects that introduce kids to building, problem-solving, and teamwork. This year’s projects included two Cub Scout favorites: a Bat House Build and a Pinewood Derby Build Day.
One of the required adventures for Bear Cub Scouts involves completing their first real building project. This year, that project was also the most ambitious yet: bat houses.
At first, it felt like a stretch. There were big questions around materials, tools, safety, and space. That’s where Kitchen Refresh stepped in.
Our team helped by:
Cutting all the bat house pieces ahead of time
Providing a safe, functional workspace
Offering guidance on tools, adhesives, and assembly
What could have been overwhelming became achievable and fun. Third graders worked side-by-side with leaders and volunteers, learning how ideas turn into real, physical results.
Later in the day, scouts and families gathered for Pinewood Derby build day. What starts as a simple block of wood quickly becomes something much more.
Parents learned the process. Scouts designed their cars. Volunteers helped cut and shape them. And somewhere along the way, confidence was built too.
As Cub Master Sheila Herman shared:
“It may start out as a simple block of wood, but in the eyes of the Cub Scout it will become a prized possession. Having a place to turn wishful dreams into reality is probably a bigger gift than anyone realizes.”
Kitchen Refresh was built on the idea that skilled craftsmanship should be Fast. Beautiful. Affordable.
But we also believe those skills matter beyond kitchens.
Supporting local organizations, youth programs, and hands-on learning opportunities is part of who we are. Whether we’re refreshing a kitchen or helping kids build their very first project, the goal is the same: create something lasting.
